Scouting's Biggest Weekend Does Not Take Place at a Campground
JOTA-JOTI 2026 gathers Scouts worldwide on October 16 to 18 with no field or tents, and Indonesia's district Frames are where everyone can see who showed up.

The worldwide trending page got us at Twibbonize bewildered for a moment when campaigns with keywords JOTA JOTI kept coming up. What is JOTA JOTI?
This is the World Organization of the Scout Movement's jamboree, the one that does not happen at a campground, on the third full weekend of October every year.
JOTA is "Jamboree on the Air", built on amateur radio. JOTI is "Jamboree on the Internet". One is held over the airwaves, the other takes up the other kind of ubiquitous waves, the Internet. Together they make the largest Scouting event on the calendar.
The scale is not small for something with no campground. In 2025, more than 650,000 Scouts and groups registered from 188 countries, and the opening live show was hosted by a Pramuka member from Indonesia.
So what does a Scout actually do for three days without a campfire to sit around?
Every scout participating in this year's JOTA will get the chance to communicate with one another, learn about scout culture from different parts of the world, by using amateur radio. Here, scouts will gather around the same time at their respective station and be guided to use the right callsign and frequency on the radio communication.

They also remade the campsite elsewhere. The JOTA-JOTI Minecraft server lets players construct their own Scout camps, and one of the places you can walk into is a recreation of Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland.

On the weekend there are global chat rooms reserved for Scout groups, live shows running out of a virtual celebration arena, radio contacts made under licensed operators, and a challenge track called Hike the Planet.
In Indonesia, the Pramuka, the country's own Scout movement, have put that sight somewhere else.
Search "JOTA JOTI 2026" on Twibbonize this week and page after page of frames comes back, more than thirty of them with supporters in the hundreds or thousands. Six belong to a Kwartir Cabang, the district council, and those six hold 10,752 supporters between them.
Tasikmalaya's has 3,135. Kuningan has 1,941 and Cirebon 1,940. Ciamis has 1,834, Kabupaten Bekasi 1,500, and Temanggung 402.
The largest page of all is not a council's. JOTA-JOTI DIGITAL GBS/XMEDIASCOUT, published on September 8 by a Scout media account called Exmedia Scout, has 5,789 supporters and a description that simply asks people to come and liven the thing up. A provincial Kwarda in East Java has another 1.7K. The rest run down through olympiad organizers, Pramuka content accounts and personal names.
None of this was instructed. Kwartir Nasional's first circular on JOTA-JOTI Nasional 2026 told the 35 provincial Kwarda to sort out radio licences with local ORARI branches, find members who hold them, announce registration through the Ayo Pramuka app, and pass the word down to the districts. It is a careful memo about permits and sign-ups. It says nothing about a frame.
So why make one?
For the same reason World Scouting built a Minecraft server. Everyone involved reached for what was already close to the people the events are meant for. Indonesian students already use frames to welcome an event or mark the start of a school year. The jamboree is one more thing worth announcing, and they had the habit before anyone gave them a reason.
Watch what happens to the frame once it is in their hands.
Check the hashtag #JOTAJOTI2026 on Instagram, and you'll find posts of youth making Twibbons an original post of comedic nature. Instead of treating the Jamboree like a formal ceremony, a handful accounts using graphics in the style of Charli XCX's album Brat saying, "Honey, I need to focus on JOTA JOTI 2026 first" in Indonesian.

It makes no sense if you look at it on the surface. But these students are making connections between the jamboree to the brazenness and cool nature shown in the most borrowed aesthetic of recent years.
Take a look as well to the customized link of their Twibbons.
The links carry it too. Tasikmalaya's district secretariat did not take the address the platform builds out of a campaign title They chose twibbone-udahsiapbelom, after the line "udah siap belom" from Rollerblade, the no na single that spent this year being quoted by everyone from school kids to grandparents. "Are you ready yet?"

Although this does not reflect on how the campaign gains their supporters, as each has their own internal network of distribution, it contributes to their campaign's idiosyncrasy among versions of jotajoti2026 slugs.
As these frames fill up people's feed promoting jamboree on the air and the internet, these students are also proving how fun scouting can be.
