Campaigning in Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness
In October, the color pink turns up on Twibbonize under a sorority’s, community’s, and a hospital’s name in support of the survivors and calling for early screenings.

On October 2, 2026, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated published a Breast Cancer Awareness Month twibbon called Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2026 and tagging it #DSTGoesPink. The national frame holds 1,800 supporters.
Delta's DST Goes Pink 2025, published October 10, 2025, holds 5,524 supporters with a full year behind it. The 2026 frame, up until this is published, is twelve days old. What the two numbers establish is not a decline, it is a habit: this is an organization that publishes a pink frame every October.
In a July 2026 study, WHO confirms that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in 158 countries. It makes sense that a sorority with over 350,000 initiated women across 1,500 chapters worldwide observes this awareness month as a tradition.
October's pink is the most borrowed symbol in health advocacy. National Breast Cancer Awareness Month was created in 1985 by the American Cancer Society, and the ribbon arrived later, through Charlotte Haley's peach ribbons and then the pink one the Susan G. Komen Foundation handed out at its New York race in 1991.
As for the Twibbons, search for breast cancer on Twibbonize, and the frames that carry the most faces almost all carry somebody's name on the front: DST Goes Pink, JJ Wears Pink from the Jack and Jill National Public Relations Committee with 1,212 supporters, Nobles & Daughters Think Pink! from the Prince Hall Shriners with 704, TLOD Pink October from the Top Ladies of Distinction National Status of Women Committee with 423 supporters.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month supplies a color, and these organizations supply the sentences. This is an Awareness campaign in subject and a Membership campaign in distribution. These frames move through chapter officers, regional mailing lists and group chats, the same machinery that carries the founding-anniversary frames covered in our piece on Divine Nine twibbons.
Outside the United States, the pattern holds and the vocabulary changes. Lovepink Indonesia published Indonesia Goes Pink 2026 on September 7, nearly a month before October, which is early even by the two-weeks-early rule for awareness campaigns, and it holds 403 supporters. Lovepink is a community whose members are roughly 99 percent breast cancer survivors, and its free ultrasound programme has reached around 18,000 people since 2015; on October 4 its Pink Walk at Parkir Timur Plaza Indonesia drew more than 2,000 participants. The Twibbon Frame is one surface of that. A similar use of the Frame can be found in how Unravel's gold September Frame is one surface of the foundation's larger programme.
In Angola, Hospital Geral de Cacuaco published an Outubro Rosa Frame reading SE AME! SE TOQUE SE CUIDE!, "love yourself, examine yourself, take care of yourself". What this Frame asks for is the reason an awareness month was established: get screened, and check yourself first.
Pink is the one piece of this that travels. Everything else is local. The sentence a supporter is willing to put on their own face, in front of the people who know them, is almost never the name of the month. It is the name of their sorority, their court, their survivor community, their hospital.
Pink is already tied to breast cancer, and to October. Anyone can join it, which is the easy part. The harder part, and the point of the month, is the support that reaches the people living with cancer.
