What Creators Can Learn from Jakarta’s 499th Birthday Twibbons

Multiple creators design for the same city’s birthday, see how they differ creatively, and what to learn from them

Jakarta turns just one year shy of a half millennium this June 22.

The Provincial Government of Jakarta (Pemprov DKI Jakarta) posted an official twibbon on their Instagram as part of the celebration. Prior to that, the government published an official logo for the city's monumental anniversary. People were quick to take it. Hundreds of campaigns were created on Twibbonize, some were even posted before June 22.

For us, this became an interesting phenomenon of how one design issued by one channel gets developed by other parties with their own creativity.

Pemprov DKI Jakarta released the campaign above on D-Day. A clearly written description of what the celebration is helps people to find the campaign. They also tag the official Instagram account @dkijakarta, and tell supporters how to share, resulting in more than 1,2 thousands of supporters. In this twibbon, even though there are no cultural elements representing the city, the colors and font are chosen with a specific idea in mind.

The scattered bars is taken from the official logo: a typography of “499” designed as a time tunnel that brings Jakarta from 1527 to today, with the chosen slogan “Menuju 5 Abad” or Toward 5 Centuries.

This design choice is interesting to learn from if you opt for a subtle twibbon.

Now let’s see how Jakarta citizens, communities, and companies take the “official design” and make it their own celebratory campaign.

1. hut jakarta 499 tahun 2026 | reviewsteknologiku.tech

This twibbon created by reviewsteknologiku.tech seems to follow the hallmarks of Pemprov Jakarta’s branding. The black background, however, gives it a stronger pop of colors.

What to learn: If you think your campaign is too subtle, try changing the background color to make it livelier.

2. HUT DKI Jakarta 499 th [2026]  | reviewsteknologiku.tech

Another twibbon by reviewsteknologiku.tech which shows another approach of designing Jakarta.

They put the official 499th birthday logo while still adding the classic icons of Jakarta: the National Monument and Ondel-ondel, large puppets traditionally used to ward off evil spirits, but now acts more as a necessary accompaniment to cultural events in Jakarta.

What to learn: Adding on-theme decorative elements is a way to signal what your campaign is about. You don't always need to rely on texts or a specifically-made design.

3. HUT DKI Jakarta 2026 Kelurahan Pulau Kelapa | Haryati Atong

This is a kelurahan or administrative village-level campaign for Pulau Kelapa, one of the islands in the Kepulauan Seribu. They put a photo of their own island in the background with logos of the provincial government, their administrative village, as well as the 499th birthday of Jakarta placed at the top.

Around 100 supporters from just a single island community is a strong result. With this twibbon, the residents of Pulau Kelapa want to say they are from Pulau Kelapa, complete with the Instagram handle @pulaukelapa1000 on display.

What to learn: Specificity is a membership signal. "I'm from Pulau Kelapa" is an identity worth displaying, more so it displays how diverse the geography of Jakarta is.

4. HUT KOTA JAKARTA ke-499 | Pramuka Jakarta

Pramuka is Indonesia’s national scouting organization. Since it is mandatory for public elementary and secondary schools to have a scouting program, we often associate this movement with children as their extracurricular activity. But that couldn’t be further from the truth, proven with more than a hundred people dedicated to scouting becoming supporters.

We appreciate this campaign especially for its double message: a celebration of Jakarta and Pramuka. They incorporated the 499th birthday logo and a sliver of the “time tunnel” harmoniously with their minimalistic design.

What to learn: Show off your organization when you make a campaign for a cultural occasion such as this. It is an opportunity to let the others know what cause your community is willing to stand for.

5. HUT DKI JAKARTA ke-499 | Desain Humas (Universitas Tarakanita)

Similar approach to the campaign by reviewsteknologiku.tech, but here Desain Humas included the real pictures of Jakarta’s icons: Ondel-ondel, the National Monument, and the business district skyscrapers.

What to learn: A cut-out design provide more details and easier to do than an illustration. One thing you could improve here is the placement of the cut-outs. Notice how Desain Humas has a picture of Museum Fatahillah, another iconic building in Jakarta, but it gets hidden behind the supporter’s photo. On your own campaign, limit the decorative elements if one gets obscured.

6. HUT Kota Jakarta 499 | Nasir Maulana Dante

We have listed creators that are communities, companies, and a government institution. One individual creator that caught our attention is Nasir Maulana Dante with their use of frame shape.

What to learn: This creator seems to figure it out, that is, you can get creative with the shape of your photo frame. Here, they picked hexagonal, making the campaign stand out in the sea of circles, squares, and archways.

These creators utilized the design asset provided by the government, but they still put their own spin to the campaigns.

From these picks, we see how specificity is important. The twibbon provided by Pemprov DKI Jakarta proclaims the city itself made this, while the Pulau Kelapa twibbon says this is for our community. Campaigns that merely say "this is for anyone who likes Jakarta" compete with every other that says the exact same thing.

These twibbons also provide good ideas on how you can start your own visual campaign for an important day.

Finally, although June 22 has passed, the celebration is not over. If you’d like to join, go ahead and support one of our picks! Or find one yourself at Twibbonize.
